decorating the fireplace

One of the things I’m most looking forward to about the new apartment in NYC is the fact that it has a working fireplace.  Yep, it’s one of those charming things I never really thought much about until I realized I was going to be lucky enough to have one.  While I’ll be curled up by it’s warmth, roasting s’mores once the winter temps kick in, I’ve been thinking about how I can use it for decorating purpose during the summer season.

I love the idea of filling a fireplace with gorgeous objects à la the images below but can’t decide which look is my favorite… I adore the the romantic feel of the one filled with antlers, think the logs stacked inside are a great space saving idea, and also really enjoy the simplicity of a gorgeous screen.  Help! What do you think?!

p.s. I’ve decided to keep the boxwood topiary giveaway open until 5 PM today due to the amount of last minute entries, so this is officially your last chance! the winner will be notified either tonight or tomorrow.

antlers, books, screen, logs, plants, shells & candles

I’ve used the candles trick before but never even though to put books in a fireplace – I love it!

I personally really like the idea with the books and the shells and candles. Being from the north, collecting shells along the coast was always something that needed a nice evening with candles afterwards, so that combination always works for me :)

I LOVE the idea with the books–I had pinned that a while ago and when I started looking for an apartment in New York, it was one of the things I was dreaming of. I didn’t end up finding an apartment with a fireplace, but there’s always next time!
