switching things up

I always see moving as an opportunity to change things up and play with different styles of decor.  None of the apartments I’ve lived in thus far have looked remotely similar despite having much of the same furniture (the bigger pieces at least).

I’ve been brainstorming how I want the new NYC apartment to look and started laying out a few pieces I had saved to my desktop in photoshop.  It began as a personal project to refer to in the redecorating process, but then I figured, why not share?!

At the top of my wish list are a. a new, more structured couch (ours current one is sooo comfortable, making it hard to let go of, but it never looks neat and that drives me insane) and b. an upholstered bed (again, we have a super comfy mattress but its on a skirted box spring – NOT tidy looking).  Unfortunately, both are big ticket purchases.  Hopefully we’ll be able to sell enough of our old furniture to invest in these newbies!

I’m sure these layouts will change a million times before the actual move but in the meantime, here are a few of the items I’m currently coveting.  Thoughts?

jute rug, dwell studio sofa, jayson home brown shell/antique gold cocktail table, candles: diptyque, gold pineapple votive, west elm hurricane, CB2 coop tower, gallery wall: john derian ‘home sweet home dish’, jennifer ament lightening bolt, clare elsaesser painting, hugo guinness cut flowers print, bonjour

serena and lily upholstered bed,  vintage faux bamboo end tables, monty task lampsstone textile tuxedo pillow, west elm chevron rug, jonathan adler double x-bench

    Hey Sarah,
So excited for you. What a great new adventure you’re about to embark on.
I love your taste & saw what I thought might be a good solution to your comfy yet neat couch dilemma. You have probably seen it before since I found it on the aroc urtu blog. I think the couch under the Fearless graffiti wall is awesome.
( a little large, but neat & comfy).
    Best wishes, Alice

Love all your ideas! Just a heads up on the west elm chevron rug, I had that and it shed EVERYWHERE. Total disaster.
