no more fun & games

No more fun and games is right… I’m off to my first day at school (for interior design), which many of you know was a HUGE decision for me. I’m nervous, excited, and antsy all at once. Is it weird that I kind of feel like a kid all over again? Alex asked me last night if I had packed my backpack yet, haha. Wish me luck friends!

Have any of you guys started something new recently? School, a job, a blog, etc.? I like to stay in the loop with what everyone is up to!

Good luck on your first day back!

I recently started a new job (about a month and a half ago) in a new industry, but so far I love it. Best decision I’ve made in a long time, for sure.

How exciting! I hope you have a great first day!!

I haven’t done anything new as of late, unless you count blogging regularly for just over a month now (something I’d been meaning to do for such a long time!)

    • sarah | chevrons & stripes

blogging regularly is TOUGH stuff (and getting the courage to do so is even tougher)! kudos to you, that’s definitely NOT nothing…

good luck! i started a new job about a month ago and it is still a steep learning curve, but i am loving it! i also started my blog in january, so that is relatively new and it has been a challenge to balance work with posting regularly!

It’s so exciting to do something new, or try something you never have done, or take on an adventure that will change the course of your life. You’ll always look back on your first day of classes. Today will be memorable. Good for you! Teri

    • sarah | chevrons & stripes

it was definitely a little intimidating but felt good to be back in action! thanks for the words of encouragement teri. xo

Good luck!! Starting something new is always exhilarating; and you know what they say, if your dreams don’t scare you- they aren’t big enough. My husband is interviewing for a new job in Philadelphia and New York so we are hopefully in for a big change as well.

    • sarah | chevrons & stripes

ooh la la! i just moved back to NYC and it was so exciting. the energy of this city is unparalleled. plus the opportunity to redecorate is always a welcome one, haha.

  • Suzell Rodriguez

It’s so hard starting something new like this so I really applaud you for following your dream. You should be really proud. And isn’t it fun for it to be “the first day of school” again? New supplies, the possibilities of new friends! I had a not so great experience with starting over a while back and while it’s a part of my life I try to block out because the memory is almost traumatizing, I would never discourage another person from trying. That’s the only way you’ll find out just how great you can be.

    You’ll be great.
I started a blog a few months back and am hoping to grow it slowly but nicely. ;) So that’s my “something new”.

    GOOD LUCK!!!!

    • sarah | chevrons & stripes

thats a GREAT something new! I’m sorry to hear that you had a not so terrific experience starting over but the best thing about life is that we get to reinvent ourselves as many times as we want, right? wishing you all the best in whatever comes next for you…

  • Sacred & Profane Designs

I’m pretty sure you’ll be the star of your class! I love new beginnings! Last year I started working on a blog about my etsy shop (, fashion and interior design and enrolled back to uni for a PhD! I’m looking forward to many new starts for this year!

    • sarah | chevrons & stripes

how incredibly sweet of you to say. and wow, a phd? you probably have more on your plate than i do! how do you do it all? p.s. just popped over to your etsy shop, so cute!

  • The zhush

Good Luck (you won’t need it!) Can’t wait to hear all about it and see what inspires you! XX

    • sarah | chevrons & stripes

thanks sue! gonna have to go look for the issue you were featured in later today, don’t think i’ve forgotten. you’re a super star!

  • Melissa Cahoon

I’m actually terrified of going back to school, even though I want to in order to be a better graphic designer. So good for you! Hope you have a great first day!!

    • sarah | chevrons & stripes

Don’t let that stop you! I think everyone gets the-back-to-school jitters (i certainly did. i’m still kind of reeling from my drafting class this morning, haha) but as someone said earlier, if your dreams don’t scare you they’re not big enough. I say go for it Melissa!

  • Aja Lake [the gold hat.]

congratulations, sarah! embarking on a new adventure is so exciting.

p.s. packing my backpack is, like, my fave thing:)

Good luck! I just finished grad school to get my Master in Teaching (yes, it really is “Master” and not “Masters) and my teaching certificate! I was so exciting to do something new and I can’t wait to start my first year of doing something I know I was born to do. I wish you the same on your journey!

    • sarah | chevrons & stripes

    • sarah | chevrons & stripes

Thanks Marti! So starting a blog is your something new, congratulations! I waited a LONG time to go to design school (I had been pondering it for about 5 years), you just have to wait until the time is right…

  • Anamaria

Hi Sarah – just found you today via the altsummit chat. Congrats on starting a new chapter in your life! from the looks of your blog i think you are going to rock interior design school ;)

  • lara / the glossarie.

you’ll be so fabulous! i’m a total lover of learning and finished my mba last spring. you will adore being back in school – especially because you’re so passionate about your new field of study!

  • Molly Spining

I love that quote from Natalie Portman. It’s spot on! That’s exactly how I feel! I recently started a blog,, but it isn’t quite where I want it to be yet. I’m a perfectionist so it will probably never by where I want it to be… Anyway, good luck with school! I adore your blog. Especially the design!
