a day of art

I had some time to kill after school yesterday so I decided to treat myself to an art-filled afternoon. On my way up Madison avenue after class I first stopped into The Whitney to check out the Yayoi Kusama retrospective. I’ve long been a fan of Kusama’s wacky, polka-dotted and often textural work. Reading her correspondences with friends and other art dealers and learning more about her love affair with artist Joseph Cornell (another favorite artist) were the highlights for me…

Then I marched up to art powerhouse Gagosian Gallery to visit an old friend. There wasn’t much to see as they were in the middle of an install but it’s always a treat just to visit their offices.

Finally, I met my mom to preview the new Regarding Warhol exhibit at The Met. I won’t ruin it for you by attempting to describe it but make the trip if you’re able – I loved it. The funny thing is, one of my absolute favorite Warhol pieces titled “Ethel Scull 36 Times” was just outside of the actual exhibit in one of the permanent collections!

I find that when my to-do list piles so high that I don’t even know where to begin, a day of wandering museums alone is just the thing to help me clear my head and start fresh. What do you do when you need to escape? AND have you seen any exhibits recently that I should make my way over to? Do share!

sounds like a great afternoon! We actually do have some great museums here in LA, but everything is such a drive…
