In an effort to stop watching entirely too much crap on television, I’ve taken to perusing netflix for old films and new documentaries. This past weekend I was on a documentary kick and watched two great ones – both about unique and creative couples that broke the social mold.
If any of you are furniture or architecture lovers like me, you’ve surely come across the work of Charles and Ray Eames. Their leather lounger and ottoman has long been on my wish list of pieces I hope to own someday. I was fascinated by their relationship and the inner workings of their creative office environment but also (and above all) by their home. I’m definitely adding this one to my 101 in 1001 list… Must visit the Eames home in LA! Have any of you seen it in person? I’d love to hear about your experience.
If you’re interested in the Eames and their work, I think you can actually view the full documentary on PBS here. AND if you want to totally geek out on amazing furniture design, watch their video on how to make an Eames shell chair – I was mesmerized.
P.S. The second documentary I watched was called Herb & Dorothy about a sweet, kooky couple who manage to curate a minimalist art collection worth millions on a post worker’s salary. Watch it!
