spring reading

In the spirit of freshening up our place for Spring, I’ve been thinking about rotating out the coffee table books our guests have been perusing since we moved in for some fresh new ones. On my list? A healthy mix of design, society, travel, and fashion!

Have you picked up any fabulous new tomes recently? I’m always looking to add new recommendations to my wish list…

Eames: Beautiful Details ($166), The Big Book of Chic ($75), Habitually Chic ($41.65), Happy Times ($45), 36 Hours ($34.86), JUMP (this one’s an oldie but sure to put a smile on your face. I’ve been hunting the aisles of the Strand for a deal on this one for months),  Heirloom Modern ($29.41), Paris Street Style ($24.95), Conversations with Woody Allen  ($21.20)

rebranding

I have an idea I want to run by you guys. I’m thinking about giving C&S another little facelift…

As you know, Hanna Seabrook of Gadabout gave my site a much needed makeover last year, and while I absolutely love the new look, lately I’ve been feeling like I’ve outgrown my header and maybe even the name Chevrons & Stripes! Does that sound crazy? I’m toying with the idea of using the logo Sarah T. designed for me as a new header and completely rebranding. This would mean I’d have to forward C&S to a new domain as well as change all of my social media handles (facebook, twitter, instagram, pinterest, now vine, the list goes on forever!) and a whole checklist of other things.

So the question I pose to you is, would you do it? Have have any of you rebranded your own blogs? What was the experience like? Apologies for bombarding you with questions but I’d love any advice you’d be willing to share on the matter!

have you tried vine?

I was hesitant to delve into the world of video (especially with my devoted addiction to instagram – do I have time for yet another platform?) but I tried the new app Vine yesterday and it makes it super easy to be creative, plus editing is a cinch! Have you tried it yet? My first video below shares a few of my favorite coffee table books. You can follow me over there @chevronsarah / Sarah Lederman. Do share your Vine handle in the comments so I can find you too!

out and about

If you follow me on instagram, I apologize in advance for the repeat photographs. But for those of you who don’t, I thought I’d share a few things I’ve been up to recently!

Over the weekend we had the most amazing weather here in NYC so I recruited a friend and strolled around my old neighborhood. A lot of the shops have changed but so many of my favorites are still there! We stopped into John Derian where I can never leave without at least one of my favorite decoupaged goodies (I have a serious problem). We also popped into Love, Adorned where I spied these sweet little jars of green-tipped matches and Haus – I thought the letterpressed calling cards they had for sale (bottom middle) were cheeky and fun!

I also spent a bit of time on the Upper East Side with Evan where I absolutely had to show him around one of my newest favorites, Creel & Gow. The shop is a veritable cabinet of curiosities and while he’s not the biggest fan of taxidermy, there’s no denying that this zebra is kind of amazing… I also ditched Evan to head over to Monique Lhuillier (where I bought my wedding dress) to shop for accessories like my veil and a few jeweled hair pins for the big day. I can’t wait until I can finally reveal the whole ensemble to you guys!

Finally, I flipped through a few of my favorite tomes during some downtime and discovered these fantastic Richard Avedon portraits of The Beatles (top middle) in my copy of Diana Vreeland: The Eye Has To Travel and this gorgeous swirly S in an old calligraphy book of my mother’s. Of course I also did some bookshelf rearranging – what would the weekend be without a little zhushing?

What did you do this weekend? And are you still lounging at home today? I’m off to work but do share your adventures so I can catch up on them when I get home!

crossword addict

We have quite a few crossword addicts in my family, myself included. Every morning morning my dad would make enough copies of the NYT puzzle for each of us and to this day when I stay at my parents, I look forward to my morning print out! I only wish I’d seen these adorable crossword themed goodies from Kate Spade before the holiday season…

What little things do you do to pass the time? Sudoku, knitting, puzzles? I’d love to hear!

I. say the word mug ($20),  II. say the word paperweight ($30)
