happy weekend!

It’s a cold wintry mix here in NYC today {what happened to 70s and sunny? come back last week!} so I’m reminiscing about our trip out to the Hamptons last wednesday to visit our venue.  Seeing the gorgeous seaside locale in person made everything feel that much more real – and we could not be more excited to start planning all of the fun little details that we feel will help represent us as a couple.

For those of you not following along on instagram, here’s a little sneak peek…  I know it’s just a tiny corner {didn’t want to give away the whole shebang in one shot} but whaddya think so far?  Have a fantastic weekend and if you’re here in the North East, stay warm and toasty!

happy menocal

I’ve been a huge admirer of Happy Menocal‘s work for some time without even knowing it…  When I came upon her site some time last month, I realized that so many of the illustrations I’d been ogling {she’s been featured by Daily Candy, Martha Stewart, J.Crew, & Jonathan Adler} were hers!  I have to say, my favorites are the custom heraldry - how amazing would they be for a wedding invitation?! They are so creative and unique – unlike some of the more traditional crests that have been around for ages.  And of course I also have a soft spot for any artist that does custom pet portraits.  Be sure to click through to her site, there’s so much more to love.

{GUEST POST} cara of big girls, small kitchen

Hi all – Cara here from Big Girls, Small Kitchen!  I’m so excited to be getting married in October. I’m having fun pulling together details now, but believe when I say that I have not been planning my wedding since I was six.

I did spend one summer in college in a sublet apartment that came with a stack of Martha Stewart Weddings magazines going back at least five years. I think the law student who lived there had just helped her sister get married, or else she’d been planning her wedding since age six.

I was 21 and single, and I memorized those pages of wedding wisdom.  And by the time the school year started I had fallen in love with Martha’s tea party-style wedding. My as-yet-undetermined husband and I would get married on the lawn, then drink tea, punch, and champagne and eat homemade finger sandwiches and canapés. I’d wear a short-sleeved tea-length dress, we’d cut into the chocolate tiered cake, and then, well, everyone would go home.

For reasons of reality, this plan did not quite fit our requirements when Alex and I got engaged. But doesn’t it sound low key and lovely? If my college-aged self were my wedding planner, here’s what we’d be eating at our early autumn tea party wedding:

1| cucumber watercress tea sandwiches, 2| classic deviled eggs,  3| salmon & avocado tea crackers, 4| guacamole

5| elderflower fizz, 6| pecan-oatmeal scones, 7| chocolate wedding cake

{GUEST POST} nikki of cupcakes for breakfast

Why hello there, this is Nikki from Cupcakes for Breakfast. While Sarah is off planning her engagement party, I wanted to help her pull together some inspiration for her beach wedding. First, a set of gorgeous images to set the scene, and then some party essentials that are pretty, classic, and breezy just like Sarah and her big day!

{GUEST POST} becca of urban flipflops & floridian weddings

Hi C&S girls {or gents}! I was so excited when Sarah asked me to write a guest post this week! Sarah reached out to me through an online blog class we both took last year. Learning that we were both new Floridians {me from Washington DC and her from NYC}, we quickly bonded over the adjustments of moving through many gchat sessions.  I was so happy to have Sarah put together an awesome winter table top for Floridian Weddings and was thrilled to hear when she got engaged {over Instagram no less} recently.  I have loved chatting with her about all of the planning and details.

When Sarah mentioned a post about weddings and entertaining I knew I wanted the focus to be around a Hampton-based wedding party {being that it may be the location for Sarah & Evan’s big day}! I started putting some ideas together and the end result was a beach themed bridal shower. The mix of Sarah’s life by the beach in Florida and the beach in the Hamptons was a perfect setting for the party. Of course the chevron striped invitation is perfect for the guest of honor. I imagine Sarah and her nearest and dearest girlfriends lounging on the sand, drinking glasses of cold rose bubbly, munching on locally baked bread and yummy cheeses, and instead of yucky feather boas to celebrate the bride, they could wear some cute heart shaped sunglasses and play bridal themed Mad Libs.  A perfect beach afternoon to toast to the bride to be. Here’s hoping this inspires your next bridal celebration or even your next girls get together! ~Becca
